All patients have a right to know ahead of time how much medical procedures will cost. You can either call a physical therapy clinic directly and ask for an estimate – referred to as a “Good Faith Estimate” – or you can look up rates online.
Private Practice vs Hospital-Owned Clinics
Private Practice: Will bill for profession services such as evaluations and treatments.
Hospital-Owned Clinics: Will bill for professional services AND may bill a facility fee. This fee covers the overhead of the hospital, even if the clinic is not located at the hospital.
How to Look Up Estimates
If you are considering care at a hospital-owned clinic, then you can look up their charges with the links below.
Cayuga Medical "Look Up" Tool
Click on the link to look up the cost of all medical procedures offered through Cayuga Medical Center (Centralus) including physical therapy services. This includes outpatient therapy at clinics not located at the hospital.
CAYUGA MEDICAL CENTER AT ITHACA
1.) Scroll down to the bottom and click on the facility of your choice, such as Cayuga Medical Center.
2.) On a new page, select your facility from the drop down window
3.) Agree to Disclaimer
4.) Enter any of the following terms into the search bar:
- Physical Therapy Evaluation 97163
- Physical Therapy Therapeutic Exercise 97110
- Manual Therapy 97140
Costs for Therapeutic Exercise and Manual Therapy are for 15 minutes worth of care.
Guthrie "Look Up" Tool
Click on the link to look up the cost of all medical procedures offered through Guthrie including physical therapy services.
1.) Click on “Create an Estimate”
2.) Enter CPT code 97163 into the search bar and hit enter
3.) Click on the search that comes up below for “Physical Therapy Evaluation”
4.) Choose to see the estimate with or without insurance
5.) Choose the location
6.) Once you see an estimate, repeat the procedure for other CPT codes such as 97110 for therapeutic exercise or 97140 for manual therapy.
MyChart "Look Up" Tool
Follow the directions below to look up price estimates through your MyChart portal.
1.) Log in to your MyChart account
2.) Go to the top left of the screen and click on the three horizontal lines.
3.) In the menu, scroll down to “Billing” and click on “Estimates”
4.) On the next page click on “Get a new estimate”
5.) In the search bar enter “97163” and hit enter
6.) Click on the box for “Physical Therapy Evaluation”
7.) Scroll down to the bottom of the next page and choose “Use my insurance” OR “Don’t use insurance”
8.) On the next page, click on the medical center nearest you.
9.) Repeat the process to see what treatment costs for Therapeutic Exercise – 97110, or Manual Therapy – 97140.

Note: None of the above estimates include the “facility fee.” A facility fee is an additional charge by hospital-owned physical therapy clinics to cover the overhead costs of the hospital system. A facility fee is not charged at private physical therapy practices like EPB Studio.
